The House Strikes Back

Our Homeownership Saga

Surprise Gift

Today when we arrived home from grocery shopping at Cub, we found an unexpected gift waiting for us near the doorway to our bedroom.

Click “read the full article” to find out what it was…But it is probably not for the squeamish.

If you guessed a dead mouse, then you were right.  We have not seen any mice in or around the house until this one showed up as a gift for us (well there was a dead one in the grass, in the backyard when we moved in).  We also have no idea which cat it could have been, therefor we will have to assume the cats are innocent at this time and the mouse was just not too happy with life anymore.

Hopefully something like this will not happen again for awhile.

Feel free to leave a comment.  What is the strangest thing you have found in or around your residence?  or   What is the strangest thing brought or left for you by a family pet?

We’ve got feral cats that have, on occasion, left us dead birds on the patio.

Inside the house, we had both a bird and a bat – both still alive (the indoor cats didn’t get them, mostly because they don’t know how to hunt). Hopefully *that’s* all done since we had a cap put on the chimney.

Our most unusual item left by a pet was an ice cube. When our cat Scooter was about two years old, I was at the refrigerator getting some ice cubes for a drink when one small one went on the floor and down the basement steps. Oh well, I get that a little later. Moments later, as I was sitting on the couch, the cat comes over and drops a small ice cube at my feet! She now comes over to me whenever I open the freezer. She begs me to drop another ice cube down the steps and although I have, she never brought another one back up. It seems she just likes to see me go down and find them. I guess I’m the entertainment. Mike 😀
